Our adorable readers,

We begin with a note of thanks, for your abundant appreciation of the contents of the KWay.

It energizes us to bring more useful, helpful, hopeful, health-related information to you on each issue.

Summer is upon us and Omicron has given us a fortuitous break.

So, we gift you also a break on COVID – talk!

We break new grounds on this issue.

Our frame of mind is what we seemed to be! We are often happy, sad, alert or sleepy. We stay active or become sluggish from time to time.

What drives those moods? Those states of being!

Neurotransmitters!

They are Brain – chemicals that dictate and determine how we run our lives; they control the strings that make us perform like puppets!

One such neurotransmitter is Serotonin, which keeps us optimistic.

Another important neurotransmitter is Dopamine. This is a happy hormone, which controls our emotions and motor activities.

As we age, we all want to stay happy, bright and active, don’t we?

But we may note that some elders feel low, and physically become slow. These symptoms are often ignored as a part of aging.

But unfortunately, it could be an early sign of a progressive neurological disorder called Parkinson’s disease, where there is a depletion of dopamine.

This month’s edition of K-Way brings out awareness of this disorder.

April 11th is World Parkinson’s Day.

Early detection and treatment, with empathetic care and support, are what we can do for patients suffering from this disorder.

Let us do our best to restore the quality of life to these elders who once gave all their time and energy to us.

Take care and have a great month ahead.

We’d love to know what you think about our monthly newsletter. Feel free to connect with us through [email protected].

    Innovations

    innovation-banner

We were in Hyderabad for Medicall expo last week. One evening, on our drive back to the hotel along Hitech city main road, we saw many groups of excited children playing under the beautiful summer twilight sky. When we saw those happy kids, we were all immediately hit by a wave of nostalgia.

All of us from Innovations seated in the car began reminiscing about our childhood days when life was simpler. Now summer isn’t that big a deal except for the scorching heat, but at one-time summer signified school holidays and pure freedom. Visits to a grandparent’s house in the village. Riding a bicycle through the neighborhood after dark. Making paper boats and screaming in joy while watching them float down the stream. Playing 123 turn-statue (not quite as challenging as Squid Game’s red-light, green-light). Chasing the bell of the ice cream man around the street corner….oh, boy!

As kids, everything was so vibrant and playful. Anything was possible. Paths turn into rivers, trees turn into castles, squirrels turn into magical creatures and fishes turn into mermaids. There were no limits. There was always something to be excited about.

Out of the many memories we shared in common, one thing was for sure, as children we soaked up every moment before sundown as though it were our last.

We hope you find the child in you this summer and approach the world with childlike wonder and fascination

So what happened? Adulthood crept upon us and with that our childlike imagination slowly faded away.

In our nostalgic reverie, we made a vow. A promise to spend more time observing, playing, and imagining endless possibilities. If we could all bring a little of that childlike energy back into our lives, wouldn’t our lives be happier and more fulfilled? Perhaps that’s something we can do more of as adults.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself. Or even better if you can do this exercise with your family or team members.

We would love to hear from you. Write to us! Tell us about your best childhood memory and drop it in the “Memories box” that is kept in the ground floor, Health centre building. Be sure to leave your name and contact number. You can also write to us at [email protected] with the subject as “A trip down memory lane”. We have a surprise gift for the best story.

Enjoy your trip down memory lane!
