The kidneys are a pair of organs situated on the back side of the abdomen. They are 2 bean-shaped structures and are formed as early as the 6th week of embryo formation itself. It is interesting to note that the kidneys are originally situated near our hips and they migrate to the lumbar region as the embryo grows.
