Acute liver failure is the rapid deterioration of liver tissue and its function. The most common causes are Hepatitis (Viruses), drugs or toxins. It could occur in someone with no pre-existing liver diseases and has a very high mortality rate. Immediate hospitalization is a must and sometimes liver transplants could be the only viable treatment.
