Dear Enthusiastic Readers,

Welcome to December; the most awaited month of 2020, isn’t it? Why? Just because it gives us a sense of reassurance? The thought of the year ending gives us a feeling that bitter experiences are coming to an end and we are eagerly looking forward to the new year to bring healthier happier days ahead. Sure it will.

Yes, this year has definitely been a hard one with more catastrophic experiences for many. Being away from loved ones and not able to visit your loved ones during crucial times and talking to our dear ones with social distance with an insecure feeling whether they could be infected and locking up ourselves indoors was just not an easy task. It really put many into an enervated mode.

This made many to age mentally and physically.

BUT friends, let’s be more practical; the year had nothing to do with the challenges we faced, in fact life is full of challenges which one has to deal with! 2020 has taught us how to face life with courage, how to respect people, how to be contented and how to be thankful.

Now we see that the pandemic fatigue has started and people are tired of rules. Yes, it is a very laborious task to follow rules all the time for several months, but of course be watchful in your activities, prioritize your needs as each and every one of us have a huge responsibility in public welfare.

As the new year approaches, fun and excitement is filling our minds to break rules but make sure to take that little extra effort to be careful.

Have a blessed month ahead.

Dishoom Dishoom Diabetes (DDD)

Dishoom Dishoom Diabetes (DDD) is the diabetes awareness initiative from the Department of Diabetes, Kauvery Hospital; the team was led by Dr.K. Baraneedharan. This unique event focused on comprehensive diabetes investigations (from eye testing to foot care examination) during the pandemic, done free of cost for the public. This event organized on November 22, 2020 was a full-day event, conducted from 9 AM to 5 PM. It was inaugurated by Dr.K. Baraneedharan, Senior Consultant Diabetologist, Dr.S. Sivaramakannan, Senior Consultant Internal Medicine & Diabetology and Dr. Iyyappan, Medical Director. More than 150 participants benefited from the event.

The main focus of this year’s event was to bring positivity to the diabetic patients during the pandemic and to improve their quality of life and beat diabetes with team effort.

The participants underwent blood sugar check, HbA1c and a complete eye examination with fundus screening done by our opthalmologist, Dr. Divya. Dental checkup was done by Dr. Preethi, diabetic foot study and foot care tips demonstration was done by Dr.V.B. Narayanamoorthi and his team and individualized physio care and exercises were demonstrated by Dr. Selvambikai and the physiotherapy team. Patients received valid scientific information from a certified diabetic educator and they also benefited from the insulin workshop. Diet counselling was done and diet recipe booklet was issued by Dr. Yamini, our chief dietician. All the participants received healthy snacks during the visit and this was one of the main attractions of the event.

Lots of stalls displayed their products for diabetes such as glucometer, supplement powder, footwear, etc. All were sold at discounted prices which really benefited the patients. Our corporate team made sure this event was organized in an elegant manner and reached the people. The multidisciplinary team approach adopted was the reason behind the success of this event. All those who attended gave us positive feedback. Their confidence and trust in Kauvery Hospital was strengthened. Their belief in Kauvery Hospital being the right choice for family health care was reinforced.
