What is COPD?

COPD or Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a lung disease.

Signs and symptoms may not be apparent at first.

The disease progresses gradually.

It may become apparent at a very late stage.

It is one of the 4th leading cause of the death. It is projected to be the 3rd by 2020.

The usual symptoms include:-

1. Shortness of breath.
2. Chronic cough with or without sputum
3. Chest tightness
4. Insomnia
5. Falling sick often

Causes:

1. Cigarette Smoking
2. Air Pollution
3. Bio-mass fuel
4. Chronic Asthma

Complications of COPD:

1. Chronic Respiratory Failure
2. Carbon dioxide Retention – Drowsiness, Consciousness altered
3. Heart Failure
4. Depression and Anxiety
5. Osteoporosis
6. Hypertension
7. Sleep Apnea

COPD makes you more at risk for infections and other health problems like arthritis, diabetes, and stroke. If you have a cough that lasts for more than a month.
