Surgical excision of benign
Excision of benign breast lesions is usually done as a day-case procedure, sometimes you may stay for one night for observation. This will be carried out in the operating theatres and under general anaesthesia. If diagnosed with and advised for excision of a non-cancerous lesion, you will be asked to do routine tests to assess your general health status and fitness for anaesthesia. These procedures usually take between 30-60 minutes per procedure. Generally, the follow up for the procedure will be done in the out-patient facility, once the results are ready. You will be advised about the care of your surgical wound at the time of discharge.
Total duct excision
Some types of nipple discharge, particularly when it is blood stained and in women over 40 years, a total duct excision may be advised as a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. It is usually done as a day-case procedure, sometimes you may stay for one night for observation. This will be carried out in the operating theatres and under general anaesthesia.
