A 74-year-old lady presented for the first time in an emergency, with acute decompensated heart failure. She was evaluated and found to have Severe Calcific Aortic Stenosis with LV Dysfunction and was in heart failure. She had neglected the symptoms of Severe Aortic stenosis and allowed LV dysfunction to set in, leading onto heart failure. She was advised Aortic Valve Replacement and after multiple counselling sessions, very reluctantly agreed to surgery. After medical optimization, she underwent MICS Aortic Valve replacement with a 19 mm Edwards Bioprosthetic valve. In view of pre-existing heart failure, she had a protracted recovery. During this period, she went into depression. Seeing her in misery, the family started to question their own decision to get her operated. In addition, to managing her multiple medical issues, the medical team put in extra efforts to counsel both the patient and family multiple times every single day. A special bond developed between the patient, her family, and the medical team. She had a gradual and full recovery. She was discharged in good physical and mental condition. She is doing well and looking forward to returning to her pharmacy which she has been actively managing even at this age. The emotional experience of the patient and family, and their gratitude is aptly captured in the beautiful poem.

Being able to breathe
A normal life again
Is what
You have
Gifted Her!

It might be…
Just another surgery!
Just another value!
For you!

That one surgery
Open & major
Putting our beats
On hold
Till the heart
Is ready to roll!
Your skill is by far…
Most magnificent,
courageous
& bold

A gift of life
Is a gift of TIME!
We are extremely
Thankful…
For providing us…
Yet another opportunity
To smile freely
With an ABLE HEART!
