Background

In the post-rehabilitation time, the cause of death in burns was suicide. This paper discusses rehabilitation mind, body, and outcomes.

Post-Burn Rehabilitation Goals

  • Pain management
  • Wound healing
  • Physical rehabilitation
  • Psychological support
  • Reintegration into daily life

Physical Rehabilitation

  • Range of motion exercises to prevent contractures.
  • Scar management
  • Functional training to regain independence in daily activities.
  • Occupational therapy for fine motor skills.

Psychological Support

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety.
  • Counselling and therapy
  • Building resilience and positive coping strategies.
  • Peer support groups for sharing experiences.

Social Reintegration

  • Rebuilding social connections.
  • Addressing societal stigma associated with burn injuries.
  • Vocational rehabilitation for returning to work or school.
  • Family education and support.

Patient story

In 10th standard, she got low marks and set herself on fire with kerosene. Locked herself in the room, so access was difficult. Face hands, and feet burnt but life saved. She had grotesque post life saved rehabilitation period. Then her father committed suicide due to stress.

So what did we do?

Life saved by several surgeries and gave psychological support. Now the 60% flame suicidal burn Mother was the sole pillar of strength. Successfully and gainfully employed, IT professional.

  • Face, Hands and feet corrected.
  • Scar revisions for limbs
  • Rhinoplasty, there was no nose.
  • Eyelids corrected, Eyebrows created
  • Fat grafting to improve the texture of skin
  • Story never ends – IT work, has become obese, so liposuction have aslo performed.
