Veppilakatti – Lime Leaves Pickle

This lime leaves pickle recipe is a traditionally made healthy dry pickle. It is a wonderful accompaniment to many dishes including curd rice and always has the consumers wanting more.

Ingredients:

  • Lime leaves – 1 cup
  • Dry red chillies – 2 to 3
  • Curry leaves – a few
  • Tamarind – a small ball (or lime juice can also be used)
  • Asafoetida (hing powder) – ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method:

  • Wash the lime leaves & curry leaves; pat them dry.
  • Dry roast the red chillies until crispy. Keep aside.
  • Tear the stems off the lemon leaves.
  • Add the lime leaves, roasted red chillies, curry leaves, salt and asafoetida to a blender and blend. Do not add water. Grind coarsely.
  • Make them into small balls by adding little lime juice or tamarind water and store them in an airtight container.
