Successful Fire Mock Drill Conducted at Tuticorin Airport for Safety Preparedness

Tuticorin, 11th February 2025 – In a major step towards ensuring passenger safety, a comprehensive Air crash mock drill was successfully conducted at the Tuticorin Airport on 11th February 2025. The exercise was organized with the collaborative efforts of the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Tutiroin and Kauvery Hospital Tirunelveli, the Tuticorin Fire Rescue Team and 108 Ambulance services. The event aimed at stimulating a response to a flight accident scenario during landing, ensuring that all teams are professionally trained and prepared to handle such emergencies.

The Kauvery Hospital Tirunelveli team, led by Dr. Karthick (Emergency Doctor), with the support of nurses and Paramedical team, were instrumental in providing medical support during the exercise. The presence of the medical team ensured the smooth execution of all medical aspects, including treatment of mock casualties and the coordination of timely medical evacuations.

At the same time, the fire and rescue team, headed by Mr. Sawan, played an integral part in managing fire safety procedures, ensuring fire control, and evacuating people safely in case of an emergency. The 108 Ambulance services also stood ready to transport patients swiftly and effectively to the nearest medical facility.

The airport team, led by Mr. Rajesh (Airport Director), along with Mr. Rajendran (Air Traffic Controller) and Mr. Jeyaraman (Senior Airport Manager), ensured seamless coordination between all departments. They successfully oversaw the strategic deployment of resources, communication channels, and the overall management of the drill scenario.

The event received special recognition from the Tirunelveli Kauvery Hospital, Unit Head Mr. Vairamuthu, and Dr. Lakshmanan, Medical Administrator, congratulated the entire Kauvery Hospital team for their effective performance during the drill. Their leadership and coordination ensured that the medical team responded promptly and with the highest level of professionalism, playing a crucial role in the success of the exercise.

This mock drill serves as an essential exercise to maintain readiness and enhance the preparedness of emergency response teams in handling any real-life aviation crisis, should it arise. The event not only tested the teams’ quick response time but also highlighted the importance of collaboration among multiple stakeholders to safeguard lives during such critical incidents.
