Hello Readers,
Welcome to the bright summer month of June! I love this month for all its special days, especially today – Parents’ Day. Wishing all of you a very happy Global Parents’ Day!
Parents! A lovely word indeed! The word embodies love, care, bonding and selflessness mixed with discipline and a firm yet loving hand. I am sure all of you will agree with me that parents are a treasure trove of blessings! Though parenting is an art which differs from family to family, all parents have one thing in common – they are always there as a pillar of support for their children.
We all need to remember that when we get something easily, we tend to take it for granted. Sometimes we take our parents for granted too; we should try not to do that. When our parents are around, we feel protected, like we have a shield around us. Sometimes we might find their affection and protection annoying but we need to understand that irrespective of age, we will always be a child to our parents. An 80-year-old parent will continue to fuss and worry over his/her 60-year-old child. This is an invaluable bond that needs to be cherished.
A parent can be a friend, philosopher and guide. In this hectic, fast-paced world, it is easy to get caught up in our routines, but we need to remember to spare some time during the day for our parents; they are indeed the ones who love us unconditionally. Today, due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are forced to stay away from one another. However, we can all still stay emotionally connected to our parents. We must make sure we communicate with them regularly and let them know that we are always there for them. Also, parents need not mean only our biological parents; at some point in our lives we would have come across others too who loved us and cared for us like our parents. We should think of them and thank them too.
Before I finish, I would also like to request all parents and soon-to-be parents – respect and encourage your child’s feelings and enjoy this parenting experience.
Finally, a few simple pointers for the month ahead:
- Physical distancing with emotional closeness.
- Washing your hands is a must but not washing-of your hands of your loved ones.
- Sanitize but do not become insane. Humanity is always a priority.
- Wear masks but do not mask your love and affection.
Let’s have a great month ahead!
