Brief profile:

Dr. Ahilasamy received his master’s degree in ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) from Madras Medical College, Chennai, in 1998 and his DNB (National Board) in 1999. Following this, he did a fellowship in Edinburgh (UK) in 2003, and then worked at the Royal Hospital in Sunderland (UK) under Mr. Peter Samuel in the ENT department. Subsequently, he worked with Prof. K.K. Ramalingam and Dr. Ravi Ramalingam and headed their peripheral centre for 8 years before starting his own medical facility, Ahilasamy ENT Centre, in 2006. He has extensive experience in providing medical care to patients from both urban and rural areas and has implemented over 550 free ENT camps.

His recent interest is in the newer surgical management of allergic sinusitis, in which he is the pioneer surgeon in India. He has participated in many awareness programs on ENT diseases in various telemedia and featured in more than 400 videos on YouTube, covering topics in his areas of expertise mainly for the benefit of ENT surgeons around the world.

Notable Achievements

Dr. Ahilasamy is renowned for endoscopic ear and sinus surgeries under local anaesthesia. He is the pioneer and the first to introduce modern surgeries for nasal allergy – Posterior Nasal Neurectomy and Mini Turbinoplasty-Tunneling technique in India.

He is the first person in the world to introduce and perform Totally Scarless Tympanoplasties and Mastoidectomies for CSOM (ear discharge). He has also innovated a few ENT surgical instruments. One of them, Dr. Ahila’s Conchal Crusher, a diathermy round knife for endoscopic ear surgery, is used across the world. He has done over 6,500 endoscopic nose and sinus surgeries, 150 endoscopic skull base surgeries for various skull base and brain tumours and 2,200 endoscopic (scarless) ear surgeries, apart from other routine ENT surgeries, in his 25 years of service.
