Interventional Radiology: Large gastric varices

Case Presentation

A 47-year-old male with alcohol-related CLD, Presented with massive upper GI bleed. He was incubated and was on support. An upper GI scopy revealed Lower oesophageal varices. Then it was ligated, and Gastric varices were partially treated with sclerotherapy.

After a few hours around 10 pm patient had a massive second bout of hematemesis. CT angio revealed large gastric varices. Around 30 ml of STS foam was injected as a sclerosant.

They are the source of the bleed.

We took him up for emergency PARTO – Plug-Assisted Retrograde Trans Venous Obliteration.
