Salem, 1st February 2019: KauveryHospital, Salem, hosted a one-day BasicLife Support (BLS) training workshop at its premises, today. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Ashok, EmergencyPhysician, Kauvery Hospital, Salem.

The training program equipped the participants with basic life support skills to handle medical emergencies that commonly occur. The participants were taken through different emergencies like Bronchial Asthma, Acute myocardial infarction, Seizures, Choking, Dog bites, etc. and how to provide first-aid and critical support to a patient at the golden hour.

The workshop incorporated techniques of CPR, Artificial Ventilation (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation) and basic first-aid as a part of its programme. Using a mannequin, the participants were given a demonstration on how to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the Heimlich Manoeuvre, including the important Do’s and Don’ts that should be kept in mind during a CPR.

The session also taught the auto and taxi drivers on how to respond quickly during a medical emergency and the immediate treatment that can be done while they are being transported to the hospital.

Upon completion of the workshop, the participants received a certificate and were bestowed with the title of ‘Salem SuperStar’. Following the successful completion of the first workshop, Kauvery Hospital would be organizing the BLS training, every Friday.

Speaking during the workshop, Dr. R. Ashok, Consultant Emergency Physician, Kauvery Hospital, Salem said,”It is extremely important that every individual is equipped with skills in basic life support that will help in saving lives. From the time of the incident, until the time the patient reaches a hospital, the victim can go through trauma which can impact their recuperation, and hence appropriate first-aid can alleviate much pain and help in faster recuperation. The techniques that were imparted during this workshop will help in preventing unnecessary medical complications and ensure that a patient reaches hospital safely”

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. V.Selvam, Head – Operations, Kauvery Hospital, Salem said, “BLS is an essential skill that everyone should be equipped with, as this paves for lives to be saved during emergency situations. The BLS training workshop conducted by Kauvery Hospital, Salem, is sure to have imparted the required lifesaving skills to the participants. These skills can make a very big difference by doubling a person’s chance of survival, if performed at the right time”.
