Welcome to the March edition of the Kauvery Health and Wellness newsletter.

The Japanese believe that the soul departs if the chest is opened. Japanese doctors treat even completely blocked blood vessels by percutaneous methods like angioplasty rather than by opening the chest and doing a bypass surgery. This procedure, called Chronic Total Occlusion Angioplasty, reduces the duration of hospitalization and helps patients return to their daily activities within 2 to 3 days. At Kauvery, we conducted a live workshop of the procedure which was led by our Senior Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Dhamodharan and was attended by more than 100 Senior Interventional Cardiologists from all over India.

We also conducted a 5-day course on Acute Illness Management (AIM) for doctors and nurses in partnership with Manchester University Hospitals Critical Care Network Group. This course is a first of its kind in Asia and the 7-member faculty team led by Dr. Alan Stevens, Director of Critical Care, was absolutely wonderful. There was a lot of knowledge sharing and the UK team was very appreciative of the excellent critical care service at Kauvery under the leadership of Dr. Sridhar. The highlight of the course was the launch of an easy-to-use App to identify the early signs of critical illness. The App, developed by Kauvery Hospital in association with MedIndia, will initially be available for use in UK NHS hospitals soon. It will later be available for a free download in all developing countries for the benefit of medical professionals treating critical illness, which will result in better patient outcomes.

One in three men above the age of 60, suffers from urinary problems due to prostate gland. If the symptoms do not settle down with medications, laser surgery is of great help. We have installed a 100-watt Holmium laser machine at our hospital, which ensures that there is minimal blood loss during surgery and pain-free recovery.

A cheerful workplace improves productivity. This is even more true of a hospital. When doctors, nurses and employees are cheerful while looking after patients and discharging their duties, it leads to increased patient satisfaction and better outcomes. We made an attempt to capture the happiness factor in our hospital during everyday working hours. Click on this link for the video: https://goo.gl/APYtTK

Looking forward to a happy and healthy March 2016.
