My Dear Readers,

Welcome to February!

New Year, Pongal and Republic Day celebrations made the whole month festive and joyous. Now February is here, a month to share love and affection. Every day is special when we are cared for, and when we care for others.

The marathon hosted by Kauvery Hospitals for promoting cancer awareness on 29th January had an overwhelming response that clearly showed that people care a lot for both, their health and well-being as well as others’.

We could learn to live each day – live well, live healthy and love life. We should never compromise on our health. We need to understand that physical activity and mental agility are the only vaccines that work against cancer, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, heart disease, dementia and other mental health challenges.

Blood Pressure and Its Significance to Anesthesia

In this article, I would like to convey a message about why your anesthetist is more worried about your blood pressure (BP).

Digital Eye Strain

Digital eye strain/Digital eye discomfort/Computer vision syndrome is a multitude of symptoms that occur in persons who have to spend more than 2-3 hours on screen per day.

CVS (computer vision syndrome) usually presents with dryness of the eye where tears that lubricate and protect the eyes are decreased in production. Due to continuous viewing of the monitor, the blink rate of the person comes down which leads to dryness of the eyes. The normal blink rate for an average person is 12 to 15 per minute. Blinking is important for spreading tears over the cornea (the black part of the eye). Dryness of the eyes often leads to an exaggerated response of the eyes to normal dust exposure leading to frequent allergies and infective manifestation.
