Case Presentation

A 65-years-aged woman from Thiruvarur developed ventricular septal rupture (VSR) following a massive anterior wall MI. She suffered from cardiac arrest and was resuscitated by our ER team.

As she continued to be in shock, she was immediately taken for intervention with IABP support. Her occluded LAD was opened and stented. Her VSR was closed with ASD device through a jugular approach.

Her hemodynamics stabilised and IABP support was withdrawn on day 2.

She went home and is doing well on a 1-month follow-up now. There are only a handful of cases reported in literature where VSR is closed by an ASD device.

This was a complete team effort which got this patient out of the woods.
