Neonatology
The department of Neonatology provides care for high-risk neonates, including preterm infants from 24 weeks gestation, and we have 20+ neonatal beds to cater to this need. A team of Neonatologists and neonatal nurses attend to all high-risk deliveries. Our neonatal unit is equipped to manage all neonatal critical illnesses, including high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) and inhaled nitric oxide therapy.
Additionally, our unit supports critical care of surgical neonates, such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia repair, laparotomy for intestinal perforations, and closure of patent ductus arteriosus. We prefer in-utero transfers; however, our transport team, consisting of a neonatal trained doctor and neonatal staff, transports sick out-born infants to our unit in a dedicated transport incubator with a portable ventilator.
Together with obstetricians and fetal-medicine specialists, we form a multidisciplinary team prepared to deal with any sort of emergency in the delivery room. Our neonatal services include follow-up care of high-risk neonates, screening for retinopathy of prematurity, hearing screening, and developmental assessment in infancy and childhood.
Our department offers several services, including neonatal beds with isolation facilities to manage infectious pathologies, round-the-clock availability of a neonatologist in the NICU to attend to high-risk deliveries and emergencies, all modalities of non-invasive and invasive ventilation, therapeutic hypothermia (whole body cooling), point-of-care testing, and portable equipment, including x-ray machines, ECHO and ultrasound scanners. We also have an Early Intervention and Neurodevelopmental Therapy Clinic, and we provide multidisciplinary prenatal counseling.
