Forced to be Human

Is it right to be plagued by humanly needs?
Mere objects which dilute in oblivion with time
Wanting to be the dearest of the lot
Or to be encircled by loving accomplices
Must be an artist’s crime
I counselled “A mind mustn’t house such Earthly needs and humanly wants”
But I painfully yet with strange relief realize that being human, I must hold their rotten but somehow fascinating wand.

I let go of its handle but am forced to grip the edge
For if I lose hold then I must fall over the never-ending ledge.
