History

A middle-aged man who was a diabetic on oral hypoglycaemic drugs was admitted for evaluation of acute febrile illness diagnosed to have acute viral pneumonia due to COVID 19. He was hospitalized and treated as a patient for 2 weeks and discharged with oral steroids and other supportive medications. Two weeks later he came with complaints of proptosis of the left eye with restricted movements along with nose block.

Investigation

He underwent CT- PNS for evaluation.

What is your diagnosis?

Answer

CT-PNS showed: Left-sided invasive fungal rhinosinusitis with the erosion of the lamina papyracea, with involvement of the left orbit.

Biopsy Revealed Black Fungus: Mucormycosis.
