Dear colleagues

Worldwide, medical journals take a break at Christmas – New Year’s time.

As such the last issue of the KAUVERIAN for 2022 shall emerge on or before 15 Dec 22.

We open with a sumptuous section on EPS. Our four electrophysiologists who conceived and conceptualized Kauvery Heart Rhythm Services now operate at four Kauvery Hospitals. Patients eagerly await them to address and resolve the woes of their “Tick – Tock”.

The section features four stunning papers that reflect their good work – from Drs Vijay Shekar, Deep Chand and Sakthivel, the former from Trichy and the latter two from Chennai. Dr. Joseph is still busy in the EPS Cathlab, too engaged to write!

Drs. S. Chockalingam and Arunkumar, from Trichy, write the perfect paper on Orthopedics, a model that can be emulated by any aspiring author, on the salutary outcome of Total Knee Arthroplasty in the elderly.

Dr. Chockalingam also kindly posts a diagnostic image down the line.

Dr. Subbaiah, from Trichy, writes lucidly on the approach to the most basic investigation in hematology – the CBC. The story drawn in blood, Hematology, always begins with the CBC.

Dr. Gayathri and Dr. Alisha Margarette, from Hosur, remind us that the spectre that haunted us during the peak of Covid – Cerebral Venous Thrombosis – is far from over, and continues to appear with predictable regularity. They describe its unpredictable course through two vivid case reports.

The fourth paper on Liver Transplants at Kauvery Hospitals features here. The previous three were authored by nurses. This paper on nutritional support to a transplant recipient comes from Ms. V. Karthiga, dietician, from Hosur. Hosur is now an approved center for Liver Transplants and is getting set for their next transplant.

Dengue and disappointment go hand in hand. It is inconceivable that a vaccine-savvy world could not yet make easily available an effective and safe vaccine that can protect people from the risk of a stormy death from Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS), Dengue Hemorrhagic Shock (DHF) and Sepsis. Gobi, PharmD, a clinical pharmacist who has joined the Kauvery family at Trichy, reviews the status of the Dengue vaccine.

Dr. Subbaiah’s Atlas of Hematology and Hemo-Oncology opens to its next page on this issue. This is the beta version, a work in progress. The Magnum Opus shall be published by the KAUVERIAN on Amazon.

Dr. Vasanthi Vidyasagaran conveys to us an invaluable lesson through “Pulmonary Oedema following Hysteroscopy”. I do hope that every anaesthesia resident reads every chapter of her book, which is guaranteed to make them safer and more effective anesthesiologists.

Would you imagine reading in the Journal Scan, posted as item 2, a poem paying a tribute to the Korotkoff sounds we have been hearing all our life while measuring BP with the venerable mercury sphygmomanometer?

Recommended Reading brings you redoubtable references which ought to be read in good time. We start with Dr. Antony Fauci’s farewell message to his institution, country and the world on his retirement. He was the voice of ID to his country during Covid. His departing message is “Stay boostered”.

Balasubramani, our poet-physiotherapist from Salem closes this issue by penning a poignant poem on “Kavirithai”.

Kindly do read, and write for the KAUVERIAN.

Best regards
