Dear K-Way Readers,

Wishing you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2024.

We are almost a quarter century into the 21st century.

In the last hundred years, life has evolved and almost a complete evolution has happened. 100 years ago, instant connectivity to even our neighbour’s house was not possible but today we are all able to stay connected through the internet and digital world.

Even the worst of pandemics was controlled with digital connectivity. On the other hand, the spread of infections can also happen rapidly as the world has become so connected.

This fast information spread has put us in a knowledgeable era, but it has also created a so-called anxiety world. The fast growth of technology has put the present generation in a situation of work-life imbalance.

We need not try to change their life pattern as the pace of growth will not allow that anyway. All we need to do is accept the growth of technology and live with the understanding that the digital world is an absolute boon to us but its usage has to be watched.

Information overload and the spread of news are actually more worrying in the present youngsters than the spread of a disease itself. A disease can be cured but fear of diseases cannot be cured.

Mental health stands on par with physical health and 2023 has been a blessed year for many in spite of post-pandemic effects but has also created health anxiety in many.

Dear readers I was on a mountain ride while penning this intro and since I did not know the path, I was very worried throughout the drive and after a while I looked behind and saw that we had actually crossed the scary path, and I had actually not enjoyed the travel thinking the vehicle may slip from the corner.

But looking back I realized it was actually so thrilling.

I guess it was a good lesson and experience for me to share.

No need to get worried about our future path and get into panic and anxiety instead look back and feel gratified that our path has been successful so far.

Let us all be united as always and enjoy our 2024 together.

Have a fabulous year ahead!

December’23 was not easy due to the persistent downpour in Chennai because of cyclonic storm Michaung that continued for nearly 2 days causing a flood. While the city was reeling under water, our employees managed to come on duty to take care of our patients. Yes, most of our employees extended their shifts to support their colleagues who were not able to turn up for duty. As healthcare professionals, we empathize with what it is like to be a patient or how it feels to have our loved ones receive care. Though advancements in technology happen in every field including healthcare, the one thing that will remain unchanged is the face-to-face interaction with patients. Hats off to all the Kauverians for putting the patient first and for not compromising on patient care during the flood.

Hey, wait! December is all about Christmas and Christmas is all about magic in the air. All of us were so excited about decorating our premises by hanging up the Christmas lights, stars and ornaments. We then set up the Christmas tree, decorated it beautifully with bells, candies, attractive stars, balls and colourful fairy lights, and gave the tree an amazing look and it was a treat to our eyes. To spread the Christmas vibe, we conducted a cake-icing competition and employees were delighted to take part in it by exhibiting their creativity and artistry skills. There was also a Christmas Eve photo challenge, Carols, skits and fun events in which our employees eagerly took part and we felt Kauverians were rejoicing in the little moments together.

Strangely enough, the first week of December was all about managing the crisis. It is resilience, which makes us, rebound from setbacks and adapt to challenging circumstances. It made us embrace change and learn from our experiences. Hope’ along with patience’ is what keeps us going.

New Year is not just a date on the calendar. It is more like a festival. In lieu of lights and decorations, it is full of positive vibes and energy symbolizing hope and optimism. Let us bid farewell to 2023 in a meaningful way and hope this New Year brings us special magic, promising new opportunities and the potential for positive change in our lives. Once again wishing you a Happy and a Prosperous New Year 2024!

Celebrating Success in Diabetes Education!

We are thrilled to share the success of our recently concluded Diabetes Educator Certificate Course valedictory event!

Over the past three months, 56 participants from across 13 cities and 5 states of India embarked on a 3 months comprehensive blended learning program meticulously crafted under my guidance.

Our journey began with a power-packed workshop led by esteemed doctors in the field of diabetes including Dr.V.B Narayanamoorthy (Senior Consultant Plastic Surgeon), Dr. S. Deep Chand Raja (Cardiac Electrophysiologist), Dr. Balaji Kirushnan (Consultant Nephrologist), Dr. K. Jayaraman (Senior Consultant Internal Medicine Specialist and Diabetologist), Dr.RaniPreethi (Junior resident, Department of Diabetology), Ms. Nasreen Fathima and Ms. Yaamini Prakash (Chief clinical Dietician). Their collective expertise ensures a holistic approach to diabetes education, covering various aspects of the disease spectrum.

After the hands-on workshop the course unfolded over three enriching months through the innovative online learning platform “KOACH app,” our participants engaged in a mobile phone app enabled learning experience that seamlessly integrates technology with education featuring 60 modules and 36 assessments that challenged and empowered our participants culminating in today’s Valedictory event.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Manivannan, the Managing Director of Kauvery Hospitals, for gracing our valedictory event as the chief guest. A highlight of the event was the launch of the “Handbook on Diabetic Education” – a comprehensive guide that encapsulates the knowledge and insights gained throughout the course.

Acknowledging excellence, we proudly awarded the top performers, recognizing their dedication and commitment to mastering the intricacies of diabetes education. Furthermore, our gratitude was extended to the doctors whose invaluable contributions shaped the course, and they were felicitated for their remarkable efforts.

We wish our 56 diabetic warriors in their new transformative role in shaping the future of India.

A Tale of Artistic Resilience and Acceptance

Janani.S
Janani.S
Service Excellence Team

On an ordinary day, the bustling cityscape greeted me with a frenzy of school students, and working professionals, each wrapped in their own aura of patience, rudeness, or indifference. Amidst this urban symphony, I reached the hospital, ready for my daily rounds. It was then that I encountered her—a girl of my age lying in the patient bed, a portrait of beauty that belied the invisible struggles beneath her calm smile.

Curiosity led me to strike up a conversation, unveiling a world of creativity that mirrored my own passions. Craft pictures, drawings, and tales of her cherished pet dog transformed her room into a gallery of life. Her intelligence and creative flair sparkled, but as we delved deeper, a veil of inner turmoil emerged, revealing the silent battles she fought. In a moment of vulnerability, she confessed the need for a friend to share joy, accept insecurities, and trust amidst the echoes of her own hallucinations.

Her childhood, marked by the solitude of single parenthood, propelled her to this stage, seeking appreciation and love in unconventional places. This experience underscored the profound role of parenthood—shaping a child’s future during the formative years. Her journey, filled with hardships, exposed the harsh reality—she sought genuine connection over material comforts, facing a world that often misunderstood her talents and instead fixated on her struggles. This revelation struck a chord, echoing the importance of appreciating life’s simple joys, often overlooked in the hustle of our daily grind. Her revelation about spending seven days a week alone highlighted the void created by the absence of weekend plans or comforting company.

In the echoes of Charles Bukowski’s words, “and when nobody wakes you up in the morning and nobody waits for you at night and you can do whatever you want, what do you call it, freedom or loneliness?” The question lingered, urging a reflection on the nature of freedom bestowed upon our children.

As the new year unfolded, a resolution took root—accepting humans as they are, investing time in loved ones, and illuminating lives with unexpected calls, heartfelt messages, and surprise gifts. Most importantly, a commitment to accept souls as they are, acknowledging that true change begins with acceptance. I’ve embarked on this journey; have you declared your resolutions for the year?
