First Device Closure of Sinus Venosus ASD in Trichy
Defect (holes) in the heart are not an uncommon finding in children. Most of the defects in heart are now closed without surgery.
One variety of defect (Sinus Venosus ASD) has always been conventionally closed by open-heart surgery.
Team of Cardiologists Dr Joseph Theodore (Lead Electrophysiologist and Interventional Cardiologist) and Dr.Maniram Krishna (Paediatric Interventional Cardiologist) successfully closed Sinus Venous defect with a device without surgery.
This procedure was done for a 24-year-old women with this defect and she was discharged the next day.
Dr T Senthil Kumar, Executive Director of Kauvery Heartcity said that Kauvery Heartcity at Trichy has become pioneer in these complex interventional procedures in the region.
He also added that close to 100 Sinus Venosus defects were closed all over the world in suitable patients and this patient was one among them and happens to be first in the region.
