Sukku Malli Coffee/Chukku Kaapi
Sukku malli coffee/chukku Kaapi is a herbal decoction that has a plethora of health benefits. Sukku and malli are the two main ingredients in this coffee – sukku is dry ginger and malli is coriander seeds. Sukku kaapi has many health benefits – it is used to treat cough, cold, indigestion and has anti-inflammatory properties as well. It is indeed comforting to sip on this to soothe a sore throat. The sukku malli powder can be stored and used over a period of time. For those who are looking to change over from the traditional tea or coffee, this beverage is indeed a healthy and tasty option.
For the Powder
Ingredients:
- Dry ginger/sukku: ½ cup
- Coriander seeds: 1/4 cup
- Peppercorns: 1 tsp
- Jeera: ½ tsp
Method:
- Dry roast the coriander seeds, pepper and jeera.
- Allow the mixture to cool.
- Once cooled, grind to a fine powder along with the dry ginger.
- Store the powder in an airtight container.
Method for Making Sukku Kaapi
Take 2 cups of water in a vessel and add 2 teaspoons of the sukku kaapi powder. Allow it it boil. Add jaggery or palm jaggery or honey according to individual taste and mix well. Strain the prepared kaapi with a filter. Have this sukku coffee hot. Fresh ginger too can be used instead of dry ginger. In that case grind the fresh ginger along with the other ingredients and prepare the sukku malli kaapi.
