Poha and sooji come together in this simple yet flavourful recipe to make a perfect snack for adults and kids alike.
Ingredients
- Poha (flattened rice) – 1 cup
- Sooji (semolina) – 1/2 cup
- Yogurt – 1/3 cup
- Coriander leaves – 1 tbs
- Salt – a pinch
- Chilli flakes – 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Sesame seeds – 1 tsp
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Green chillies, slit – 2
- Curry leaves
- Ghee or coconut oil – 2 tbs
- Idly powder – optional
Method
- Wash the poha in water and then soak it in water for a few minutes.
- In another bowl, mix sooji with yogurt.
- Combine the soaked poha, the soaked sooji, salt, and coriander leaves.
- Mix well and roll into small pieces.
- Cook the pieces by steaming them for 10-12 minutes.
- Add oil to a pan and heat.
- Add mustard seeds, sesame seeds, and asafoetida. Wait till they splutter.
- Add the slit green chillies and curry leaves. Add chilli flakes (optional).
- Add the previously steamed pieces to the tempering mixture and gently toss.
- For extra flavour, add idly powder and toss.
- Serve with an accompaniment of your choice.
