Steamed Poha and Sooji Bites

Poha and sooji come together in this simple yet flavourful recipe to make a perfect snack for adults and kids alike.

Ingredients

  • Poha (flattened rice) – 1 cup
  • Sooji (semolina) – 1/2 cup
  • Yogurt – 1/3 cup
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tbs
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Chilli flakes – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Sesame seeds – 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Green chillies, slit – 2
  • Curry leaves
  • Ghee or coconut oil – 2 tbs
  • Idly powder – optional

Method

  • Wash the poha in water and then soak it in water for a few minutes.
  • In another bowl, mix sooji with yogurt.
  • Combine the soaked poha, the soaked sooji, salt, and coriander leaves.
  • Mix well and roll into small pieces.
  • Cook the pieces by steaming them for 10-12 minutes.
  • Add oil to a pan and heat.
  • Add mustard seeds, sesame seeds, and asafoetida. Wait till they splutter.
  • Add the slit green chillies and curry leaves. Add chilli flakes (optional).
  • Add the previously steamed pieces to the tempering mixture and gently toss.
  • For extra flavour, add idly powder and toss.
  • Serve with an accompaniment of your choice.
