Successful Zero Contrast Complex Multi Vessel Angioplasty at Kauvery Hospital Vadapalani Saves 54-Year-Old Sudanese Man’s Life

Chennai, 10th April: A 54-year-old man from Sudan, Africa, recently underwent a life-saving procedure at Kauvery Hospital Vadapalani after suffering from a severe heart attack. The patient, who had initially received conservative treatment in Sudan due to persistent pain, was brought to Kauvery Hospital Vadapalani where he was diagnosed with myocardial infarction and found to be suffering from renal failure, indicated by elevated creatinine levels.

Under the expert guidance of Prof P Manokar, Senior Interventional Cardiologist and Clinical Lead in Heart Transplant with his Associate Consultants in Interventional Cardiology, Dr Arun and Dr Nithesh Kumar, the patient underwent comprehensive evaluation. Angiographic assessment revealed critical blockages in three major coronary arteries, necessitating urgent intervention to restore blood flow to the heart.

Given the patient’s reluctance to undergo open-heart surgery and the presence of renal impairment, the medical team opted for a zero-contrast approach in the angioplasty procedure. This tailored approach minimizes the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy, ensuring patient safety while addressing complex cardiovascular issues.

Utilizing advanced coronary imaging techniques such as Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), the team successfully deployed stents to address the blockages, ensuring optimal blood flow to the heart without the use of contrast media.

Under the diligent care of nephrologists, the patient’s renal function was closely monitored throughout the procedure and recovery period. Significantly, the patient exhibited improvement in renal function, with creatinine levels decreasing from 2.6 upon admission to 1.9 at the time of discharge.

Commenting on the successful outcome, Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Kauvery Group of Hospitals, stated, “This achievement exemplifies our commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and leveraging innovative medical techniques to address complex cardiac conditions.”

The successful completion of this zero-contrast multi-vessel angioplasty reflects Kauvery Hospital Vadapalani’s dedication to leveraging innovative techniques and interdisciplinary collaboration to address the diverse needs of its patients.
