Vanakkam to my dear KWAY readers!

Your enthusiasm has always been the key to our energy!

Greeting everyone with the word “vanakkam” has been adopted as Kauvery’s culture, but it is of course the ancient method of welcoming someone. The etymology of the term vanakkam is to greet someone with respect and to acknowledge them warmly. Hence, we use the word vanakkam to welcome all our patients. While saying Vannakkam our hands are folded together to greet the person which in turn helps to cease the spread of infections.

At Kauvery Hospital, treating everyone with respect is of paramount importance, especially women.

As Women’s Day approaches, I would like to remind all the women out there that being a woman is a very special gift, as we are known for our love, patience and maturity. In this age of independent women and nuclear families there is a lot more onus on women to make sure the family ties and values are upheld. A family’s well-being rests in our hands and we have to ensure we make these bonds tighter and not lighter!

On behalf of the entire women community at Kauvery, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the women out there a healthy and happy womanhood, not only on this particular day but always.

On behalf of all the women staff at Kauvery, I would like show our gratitude and thank our Executive Director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj for making sure that every woman is treated with warmth and respect at our workplace and for being a perfect leader. His forethought of woman in management has been a motivation for woman to actually increase their self-respect. He has put his words into action and has given the support, motivation, appreciation, and encouragement from time to time. Woman in some part of their time have a career break, training programs to support them are very much a part of his initiative.

Every woman feels proud to be a part of this Kauvery family.

Hoping that every woman gets this kind of respect at her workplace and home, have a Motivated March.

Bring Your Kids to Work Day

Children, after all, are like sponges. They absorb and mimic what they see.

Every parent dreams about creating a successful future for their child, With this concept the Innovation Team headed by Ms.Uma Maheswari at Kauvery decided to launch this fun filled day with personnel interaction of the children at their parents workplace.

Bringing them to work is a great way to get them off, on the right foot.

“Bring your Kids to work” event was hosted for the 1st time on 22nd Feb 2020.

The purpose of the program was to encourage, inspire and introduce the kids to our workplace and empower them to dream and explore without limitations. The day began with a game of connections , put together by the nursing team. The fun filled game was followed by a session with Dr.Lakshmi Prashanth consultant Pediatrician who charmed away the kids with her panache and played a game of jumbled words. Ms.Yamini, Dietician introduced the kids to food pyramid and importance of making healthy food choices.

Dr. Hema and Dr. Mahalakshmi anesthetists delivered a power packed Zumba session that got all the kids on their feet.

Dr.Aslesha Consultant Emergency Physician and Dr.Kathir introduced the kids to the para medical team members, who support the doctors in the treatment.

Post lunch session had Dr. Iyappan Ponnusamy who shared his journey in becoming a Radiologist. He also performed a live ultrasound that had the children spellbound. Dr.Balamurali our spine surgeon shared his views with the kids about the life of a surgeon.

The children spent the rest of the afternoon at the skill stations, where they had practical exposure to CPR, Firstaid, Hand hygiene, Infusion station, Biomedical Equipments and 3-D models of human body.

The finale was with the Fire Safety training Officer Mr. Allwin who enlightened the kids about fire safety methods.

The children were awarded a certificate of participation and presented with a stationary kit each as a token of appreciation.

Many of the children said that they had an interest in working in the medical field and this event gave them a hands-on opportunity to understand what it is like, to work in a hospital setting.

Sharing what we do at work is so much more than an event. Kids got to experience our culture and see that people work hard in order to save lives.

We’re already looking forward to hosting the next event!

International Epilepsy Day

The second Monday in February was declared as International Epilepsy day, by the world body International League against Epilepsy three years ago.

A half day CME on “Seizures in Critical Care” by a multidisciplinary panel of Intensivist, Cardiologist, Nephrologist, Neurologist, Neurosurgeon was conducted for doctors and nurses by our Senior consultant Neurologist, Neurosurgeon and Epileptologist, Dr.Pritika Chary.

Seizures can cause irreversible brain damage if not managed promptly and appropriately. No where is this more important than in the critical care setting (ICU), where anoxia, ischaemia or other underlying metabolic alterations can cause seizures for the first time in a patient.

This session was discussed in relevance to treating seizures due to multi organ involvement in the critical care.

It was an eye opening session for many doctors and nurses.
