My Dear K-Way Family Members,

It gives me immense pleasure to share that our hospital has entered its 25th year of providing excellent healthcare services and we are celebrating its silver jubilee.

We thank our wonderful founders whose vision and mission to extend exceptional yet affordable healthcare services to everyone has been achieved.

We promise to continue our dedicated services to mankind by providing excellent healthcare to our community.

2024 February edition is here marking a leap year newsletter.

Yes, this year we have 29 days in February making it a leap year. An extra 24 hours is in our hands this year. An extra day to achieve what we want to do this year!

Do you know something, when I was a kid, I remember my friends always wanting their birthdays to be on February 29th… ha ha!

Yes, they probably thought it would be the talk of all the birth dates in school.

Also, I guess they thought they would age slowly 😀😀. Will that be possible? How we wish! No, it’s not like that.

After we reached teenage, they were glad they were not born on the 29th because that would mean they would miss celebrating their special day and would have to wait for it to come once every 4 years!

As adults, we realized February 29th is just another working day and we better do our work and study well.

Now, as a family physician, the month of February is very special in terms of creating awareness on health issues – especially diseases like cancer as February 4th of every year is meant to create cancer awareness.

The one word anyone would hate to hear is cancer. More than the rapid spread of the disease in the body, the rapid spread of anxiety and worry in the minds of people and their families is more.

One should remember that in this modern era, early detection and early treatment for any kind of cancer are available.

Worrying about any disease will not solve the problem.

Seeing a vast array of patients, I realized that patients have good knowledge about their general health and are definitely very knowledgeable when it comes to cancer.

But always remember to seek medical advice instead of blindly following verbal advice.

Evidence-based research has given a great opening for the treatment of cancers. From screening tests to blood tests and imaging modalities, everything is available for early detection.

But remember, your body is your first friend and it will let you know if you are unwell.

The main help you can do for yourself is to not ignore a symptom if it’s recurrently bothering you or if a symptom is persisting for a long time.

Well friends, remember that having a healthy lifestyle and following healthy habits with a healthy mind will keep us healthy.

Kindly encourage physical activity in children. Research has proved beyond doubt that obesity is one of the main reasons for developing cancer.

Also, teach them to stay away from sugars. And mainly, guide them about the importance of a healthy mind and body.

Annual visits to your family physician and annual health screenings will boost your mind and body.

Have a great month ahead.

I would love to know what you think about our monthly newsletter. Feel free to give your feedback via WhatsApp +91 98406 47533 or by email communication@kauveryhospital.com.

Highlights @ Kauvery

Hey, Keen-sharp Kauverians! Let us welcome February 2024!

Uma Vamci
By Uma & Vamci

February is always extra special. It is the month of love. Though short, it is always noteworthy especially this year. Wait! How? February 29 – the bonus day. Yes, it is a leap year.

January has always been a month to begin new endeavours. There is a saying in Thamizh “Thai Piranthal Vazhi Pirakkum”. The word ‘Pongal’ has its origin from Thamizh word ‘pongu’, which means, “flourish”. It is a four-day festival, which starts with Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Maattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal. Here at Kauvery, we celebrated 5S Bhogi, which was all about making way to new beginnings by tossing away old things. We executed the first pillar of 5S – “Seiri” (sorting) across the unit to eliminate the waste by segregating the necessary and unnecessary items followed by “RRR” policy (Repair, Recycle and Re-use) and reaped the benefits of the 5S Bhogi and made this Pongal special at Kauvery, Alwarpet. Employees were all dressed up in traditional wear to match the festive spirit and took part in the Pongal puja. As part of the Pongal Thiruvizha celebrations, we also conducted games like uriyadi and tug-of-war and had various stalls while one such was about 360-degree video booth, which grabbed the attention of our employees. On one end, our beautiful women folk all dolled up in silk sarees trying to capture the festive moments while our smart men of Kauvery in Veshti Sattai were trying to grab the spotlight.

Was it just about festive and fun? Not exactly. At Kauvery, we want our employees to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and competencies required to excel in their roles. Typing skills have become indispensable for employees across various industries. Considering this fact, we setup a platform for our employees to upgrade their typing skills by organizing the Super Typist Award contest. Employees were so keen on taking part in the contest. This is all about January.

This February, let us create a unique and compassionate environment for our patients and their families by Living Our Values Every day. According to our value system, let us deliver a Heart-felt Personal touch and create a memorable experience leading to an impactful way of spreading love and compassion.

A Journey from Tragedy to Gratitude

Ms. Monica
Ms. Monica – Service Excellence

On a rainy morning, struggling to reach work, I nearly missed my bus, setting the tone for a stressful day. Amidst the chaos, I crossed paths with a 47-year-old-man during my routine rounds, sparking an unexpected twist in the narrative of my day. His memory, a casualty of an unknown incident, had wiped away the very essence of his family and friends.

As I paused to understand the depth of his situation, in the serene land of Andaman, the 47-year-old man was not a stranger; he was a father, a resident of the beautiful Island, now found himself in a hospital bed, unable to speak or recognize his own son, daughter, and wife. This has frightened me and reminded me of an incident where I was in a similar position due to sudden loss of consciousness during an event. I could relate and sense the emotions the family was undergoing.

Little did I know that the vibrant emotions that once defined him were now locked away, leaving behind a silent struggle. His transformation marked a profound shift, turning his life into a poignant journey where the inability to express emotions became a new challenge for both him and his family.

Throughout the extended stay, I formed a daily connection with the patient and his family by regular visits and ensuring their expectations were met as a part of my daily routine. Each day marked a step closer to normalcy, a reunion with family, and a celebration of life’s precious moments. I was also able to witness the man’s daily progress and it became a testament to the power of resilience. With the help of his family and the doctors’ effective care, the bleak situation was transformed into gratitude.

As he regained recognition of his family and joy returned to their lives, a profound sense of gratitude enveloped the atmosphere. This incident served as a reminder of the fragility of life. Witnessing this gave me hope for my own life, proving that anything is possible, if you have the courage to face a challenge. As the pages of this chapter turned, the family’s gratitude mirrored my own newfound appreciation for the present moment. In the end, the story wasn’t just about overcoming tragedy –it was a celebration of the enduring human spirit and the power of embracing each day with gratitude and kindness.
