Our Dear K-Way Readers,

On behalf of our K-Way team, we wish all our dear readers a very happy and prosperous NEW YEAR 2025.

Time and health are two precious assets that we need to recognize and appreciate.

We are all blessed with ample amounts of both these assets which are more powerful and valuable than monitory assets.

Being a family physician in midlife, I realize that both time and health are being either undervalued or taken for granted.

Sometimes, I see neglect of health, and at other times, people give so much importance to small common health issues that it causes health anxiety or fear.

There should always be a balance in every action, and nothing should be taken to the extreme level.

Time and health should be respected, and the dawn of the new year is the yet another chance to time to turn our wishes into reality.

Let me give a small example to understand what I mean.

Well, we all get up and see the wonderful morning with our eyes. But we never really stop to think “Wow! I am able to see today!”, as it is taken for granted that our eyes are just doing their work.

We never thank our wonderful eyes 😃, do we?

People work for hours on the computer; many of us use phones and are constantly looking into social media updates, either as a part of our work or for timepass, isn’t it?

Do we realise how much we are straining our eyes?

On the other hand, people can be lazy, having a lack of driving force to exercise and live an idle life which can cause obesity and lifestyle diseases. This in turn leads to uncontrolled sugar level leading to retinopathy.

In both the situations, our eyes which are one of the wonders of our body gets affected.

We are so particular about preserving and restoring monuments which are man-made wonders of the world, but we fail to realise that each one of us is a wonder to this world too.

You can’t create another you! Isn’t it.

Well can we imagine a day without sight. Our eyes are precious as any other part of our body.

We are fortunate to be blessed with good health.

What I would like to emphasize on this new year is that time and health, if valued, will give you back more wellness in return.

Given below are a few suggestions on which one can focus as the new year approaches.

  1. Health and Wellness
  • Do regular physical activity.
  • Have a balanced diet.
  • Drink enough water.
  • Sleep for a minimum of 7 hours a day.
  1. Personal Development
  • Look into your passion.
  • Learn something new – a language, an instrument, or a game.
  • This will make you feel occupied and will also give you a new focus.
  1. Time Management
  • A routine should be fixed.
  • Take a social media break once a week.
  1. Reading
  • Knowledge is power.
  • Read a book a month.
  1. Savings
  • With the advent of online transfers and home delivery of goods, huge expenditures happen without realisation.
  • Make sure to not get tempted.
  1. Travel to Explore
  • Get new experiences.
  • Love the nature around you.
  1. Volunteer and Kindness
  • Get into a habit of helping others within your limits.
  • Be kind to everyone around you.

Acceptance of the digital world is important, but as this edition emphasizes, we should use it wisely so as to prevent health hazards.

Have a blessed year ahead!

Hello Kauverians! Welcome to Joyous January 2025!

Hello Kauverians! Welcome to Nurturing November
By Uma & Vishnu

As we step into a brand new year, January brings with it a sense of renewal, hope, and fresh possibilities. New beginnings are a powerful reminder that every moment is an opportunity to reflect, reset, and grow. It’s a time to look ahead, filled with optimism and determination, as we continue to provide the highest standard of care to our patients. This month, let’s embrace the opportunities that come with the start of a new chapter and the chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.

Looking back at December, we immersed ourselves in the warmth and joy of the holiday season, celebrating the birth of Christ and spreading kindness throughout Kauvery. The whole hospital was filled with a festive Christmas vibe, thanks to the beautiful decorations in every block. Our Christmas spirit was brought to life with carol competitions and floor decoration contests, creating a lively atmosphere of unity and joy. As we bid farewell to 2024, we did so with gratitude for all that we’ve achieved and with an eagerness to face the year ahead with renewed strength.

The start of a new year is always an opportunity to set new goals, re-energize our commitment, and embrace the challenges ahead. It’s also a time for reflection, to appreciate how far we’ve come. One of the greatest gifts we receive is the trust our patients place in us. Trust is not easily given—it’s earned through compassion, expertise, and reliability. We are deeply grateful that our patients trust us with their care, and we recognize this as a great blessing. Their confidence in Kauvery is what motivates us to uphold the highest standards of care, and we remain committed to ensuring we continue to earn their trust, each and every day.

New beginnings are not just about setting goals—they’re an opportunity to reaffirm the trust placed in us and embrace growth, both individually and as a team. Each day offers a chance to improve, innovate, and build deeper, more trusting relationships within our Kauvery family and with those we care for. Whether it’s enhancing patient care, expanding our knowledge and skills, or fostering stronger connections, 2025 holds endless opportunities to make a lasting impact.

Let’s set meaningful goals, commit to continuous learning, and take consistent steps toward growth. Together, we can make this a year of trust, compassion, and excellence. We are deeply grateful to our Kauvery family for your dedication and compassion, which make Kauvery a trusted institution of care. Let’s continue supporting each other and honoring the trust placed in us as we embrace the opportunities ahead.

Here’s to a year filled with new beginnings, trust, growth, and meaningful impact! Happy New Year, and let’s make this Joyous January the start of something extraordinary!

The Lessons of Connection, Care, and Responsibility

Ms Sofia Roseline,
Service Excellence

Every morning when I wake up, my first thought is: What am I going to learn today? My job gives me countless opportunities to meet new people, engage in meaningful conversations, and learn from individuals of all ages and backgrounds. It’s this constant flow of human connection that keeps me passionate about what I do. Dear readers, I want to share an incident that reflects the beauty of human relationships and also the challenges of elderly care in India.

A 74-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with a diabetic foot ulcer. He had been staying with us for a week, and every single day, his wife was by his side. From the first time I met them, they were warm, welcoming, and always greeted me with a smile.

As I spent more time with them, I began to feel a connection with the elderly man. I came to know that his children had moved abroad, leaving him and his wife to live alone in their hometown a place they loved deeply and refused to leave. He often spoke about his children with pride and love, sharing stories of his visits to the USA. But he admitted that adapting to life there was challenging, so he and his wife decided to return to India.

The 74-year-old male had to undergo a toe amputation as part of his treatment, which was a physically and emotionally difficult process. Through it all, his wife was his rock. She fed him, stayed by his side, and cared for him tirelessly. Watching their bond was inspiring; their love and devotion to each other were evident in every gesture.

But there was also an unmistakable longing in their lives a yearning for their children’s presence. Although their children called regularly to check on them, the physical distance created challenges. The couple struggled with technology, finding it difficult to send medical reports or discuss his condition over the phone. Their frustration was evident, but so was their determination to manage as best they could.

Thankfully, the hospital staff and doctors stepped in to help. They explained his condition to the children over the phone and guided the couple through every step of the process. Their kindness made the couple’s stay more comfortable, and their gratitude for the care they received was heartwarming.

This experience made me reflect deeply on the growing challenges of elderly care in India. Traditionally, our joint family system ensured that aging parents were cared for within the home. But with globalization and urbanization, that dynamic has shifted. Increasingly, elderly parents live alone, far from their children who have moved abroad for better opportunities.
This couple’s story touched me deeply. It reminded me how vital it is to care for and support the elderly in our lives. They give us everything love, guidance, and sacrifices and as they age, it’s our turn to be there for them, ensuring they feel secure, valued, and cherished.

This isn’t just about fulfilling a responsibility; it’s about honoring the people who have shaped our lives. Every day, I learn from the people I meet their resilience, their love, and their strength and I carry those lessons with me.
